Woodward (Germany) is manufacturing a wide range of generator control panels. Intellicom has been involved in remote monitoring projects where Woodward products have been used together with Netbiter solutions.

One of our customers had a large industrial area with several generators distributed over a large area. The generators were located inside or close to office buildings or work shops that had an Ethernet LAN backbone available. (Used for the office LAN network and the factory LAN). They needed to connect the generators to their control room for supervision 24/7. The Netbiter solution in this case enables the generators using the Woodward control panels to be linked to supervisory SCADA software using the existing factory LAN and office LAN networks.
As a result, installation can be performed easier and at a lower cost and the generators can be incorporated into the overall management system of all automation devices and processes available.

In the project the Woodward control panel was used that provides a Modbus RTU (serial) interface.
The Netbiter Modbus RTU TCP unit, MB100 supports any Modbus serial based products (Modbus RTU and Modbus ASCII). The Modbus interface at the Netbiter communicates with the Woodward control panels by reading and writing any data.
On the other side of the gateway there is an Ethernet port that provides a standard Modbus TCP (Ethernet) interface. In the project the Netbiter Modbus RTU – Modbus TCP gateway was used to convert the data from the Woodward control panel to the Ethernet network. This means that each generator could be connected over the existing Ethernet LAN and then easily connected to the supervisory SCADA software.

The Netbiter MB100 product acts a pure transparent device that just forward data requests from the supervisory software. This means that from an installation point of view the installation just takes a few minutes and is done completely through web pages that are available inside of the Netbiter unit.

Connect control panels to Ethernet based system like PLC’s, supervisory SCADA systems etc to benefit from Ethernet cabling.
